I run linux on the desktop and 1password actually works surprisingly well via Wine. Even the Chrome extension seems to work.

Ditto. Running Ubuntu 14.04 and using 1password via Wine. The extension works under both Firefox and Chrome. I followed the install process they have documented here: https://support.1password.com/1password-in-wine/
