Why would they buy Twitter when they can easily create a new product, called Google++ that everybody can use and love?

You left off your sarcasm tag. Now look what you've done!
But the obvious abbreviation (G++) is already the Gnu C++ Compiler.

It should be Google#.

Creating a new product that everyone will use and love is not so easy, even for Google.
It's not like Google Wave Or Google+ took the world by storm...
Considering how (pathetically) they have failed at previous social networking products (own + acquired ones), I won't be surprised if they're not ready (at least yet) for another attempt (and a fairly expensive one at that).
