In some ways, yes. On the other hand, free software is also everywhere.
Linux, Webkit/Blink/Firefox, Apache/nginx, LLVM/GCC, Emacs/Vim… it's a pretty big list. Instant messaging and Pro Photo/Video apps are a particularly sore point. |
