Shells and /_/nix philosophy are a 4th generation query and data munging language with seamless extensibility. Emacs is an perhaps the most ambitious implementation of a layer above shells and /_/nix philosophy. The problem I have with Emacs is the surface area feels infinitly large and some features can be buggy. I choose to use both. |
