Preprint services like arXiv are not taken seriously by academic hiring and promotion commitees. The work has not been peer reviewed. Preprints do count for scientific priority however. The current issue of Science says about five disciplines are trying to imitate the physics arXiv. There is much resistance in some sectors. |
