If you're able and have the time to run your own service, that's great for you. Everybody else will have to rent the service and have to pay recurring bills. That's kind of the point of renting something. I can't quite see how that will get in trouble with any government authority.

I have no trouble with renting something, but I just want to use an API when I want to use it and pay a bill.

I don't want to guess how many API calls I want to use a month forever into the future or have to thing about Yet Another Subscription.
