Thanks for the insightful response. I didn't mean to say that the entire project came from some shot of inspiration by some Google engineer, nor do I think of Kubernetes as a "Google system" -- I'm well aware of that separation.

The main thing that I think makes Kubernetes the perfect example of a modern free software community is the open design process and how the entire architecture of Kubernetes is open to modification. You don't see that with Docker, and you don't see it with many other large projects that have many contributiors.
