RealMetrics – Take the vanity out of your metrics
2 points by domgoulet 3607 days ago
Hello,

I am looking for feedback about a custom tool I developed for my own needs.

RealMetrics helps you track your progress toward goals, seamlessly integrating with apps you use & love.

I am mainly looking for feedback. Anyone else in the world seeing value in such a tool? In my last SaaS, I was importing transactions from Stripe and doing that job in a spreadsheet.

Current solutions provides vanity metrics (MRR, ARR, etc.) that did not helped me scale my business. So I automated the process and probably went a bit far doing so ;-)

Thanks!

Requiring a connection to a Stripe account just to pass beyond the landing page seems a bit risky to me because I have no idea what I'm buying or potentially buying or who I would be providing financial data to.

My advice:

+ If it meets the guidelines this might make a good "Show HN". Guidelines: https://news.ycombinator.com/showhn.html

+ Before reposting as a Show HN, consider removing all the friction between potential users and the tool.

+ This means looking at the sales funnel as:

  Potential Users =>
  Users =>
  Potential Customers =>
  Customers
Customers are monetized. Potential Customers might be monetized. Potential Users cannot be monetized.

+ Because the tool was already built for your own needs, it's a sunk cost. The new cost was building the infrastructure to share it. While getting paid a lot of money immediately might be nice, in a competitive space like analytics, try before I buy, may be more appropriate.

+ If a product can take that approach, it is more likely to engage with potential users and place them in the sales pipeline.

Good luck.
