I've done a significant amount of hiring in my career and I've had a more than a few conversations about the "importance of my work" vs "level of my compensation". In the nicest possible way I've had to explain that 'importance' has nothing to do with it. Hiring is supply and demand. There are more competent accountants vying for the same jobs than there are developers. More developers than there are SRE's. The rarer the skill set, the more expensive it is to hire. |
