While blanket terms are bad, and my knowledge of Japan is too little, pure racism probably is (very?) widespread there. I recall seeing (on news) a beauty queen in name of Japan was alienated or harassed for being of mixed race, half-Japanese. Maybe someone actually familiar will come along to tell us about the reality.
