As a technical founder having gone through a few VC rounds, I was initially surprised by the lack of technical diligence but eventually came to the same understanding as the author: product-market-fit and sales/marketing execution make-or-break most companies.

I would add though that the impact the technical founder has on the design of the product and the quality of execution is immense and often hidden behind the non-technical founder selling the company to VCs. Good technical founders do a lot more than code. If I were a VC, I would look for teams with technical founders that have skills extending into product management, people management/recruiting, and operations.
