Not to discount this as it's very impressive work. But replacing CD drives with SD/hard drive based solutions is becoming pretty common. For the Dreamcast there is the GDEmu[0], and the Saturn already has the Rhea and Phoebe[1] (basically the same thing, each is for slightly different models of Saturns). The Playstation also has one, the ps-io[2]. I'm really hoping for someone to step up and do the PC Engine, Neo Geo CD, Sega CD and 3DO.
