Seconded. Quality of life is second to none.

Pros: * I live the heart of downtown in a major Canadian city * Rent is $1025/mo, plus $100 for underground heated parkin. (Hey it's Canada) * Work is across the street (it's not abused) * Wilderness is only 15-20 minutes away * Montreal/Boston are only 12 hours away

Cons: * I'm a "devops lead" and making $70k/yr

I've come to the realization it'll take six figures plus to get me to move away.

That seems like a very low salary for any technical lead position. Are the wages in Canada generally that low? Most lead positions in the US regardless of geographic area start in the low six figures.

In the non-coastal, non-major-city US, it's rare for a salary to hit "low six figures".

Wages aren't quite as low as listed for Canada, but most leads here are in the $80-90k range.

Agreed, I was making $70k as new-grad at RIM in Waterloo in 2012. Though when the grandparent says Montreal is 12 hours away, do they mean driving? That would imply they are somewhere like Windsor or Charlottetown.

That said, it could be Vancouver, I remember getting an offer from Arista in 2013 for about $78k + some stock.

Starting salaries for new graduates in SF are north of $100k. Those "six figures plus" are certainly on the table.
