I'm not sure it is just startups. I think larger/more established companies fit into this too, but they may just be emulating hip startups. I work at a 100-500 person company. I do not attend most company events because of the amount of drinking. I hate meeting with clients because the amount of drinking. As someone who used to regularly show up to work drunk, it's not a healthy atmosphere for me. However, I do feel an odd sense of loyalty because 2+ years ago they let me go to rehab instead of canning me. |
