CORRECTION: "Medical error homicide" refers to a medical error (i.e., an avoidable iatrogenic event, such as mis-calculating a dosage by making a math error, as in the famous case of the Boston Globe medical journalist, Betsy Lehman), which is negligent as a matter of law, and which causes or substantially contributes to the death of the patient or any other person. This definition reflects the fact that intent to kill is not a required element of a homicide. |
