how did you manage to make a whole article out of 'soap is easy to sell illegaly'

I wish I had this skill. I generally can't make even complex topics more than a paragraph or so..
I read it all and thoroughly enjoyed it. It could be summed up as thieves like to steal commodity goods because they are easier to trade. Other than that they like to steal high demand luxury goods.
It was a bit long winded.
Well, it did feel like I read the same thing three times, worded differently.
Tell them what you're going to tell them about. Tell them. Tell them what you told.
Man, the number of times I've heard my Dad say this ...
To be honest, when you're talking about tens of thousands of dollars of one brand of detergent from one store alone, maybe there is some value in examining the minutiae? After all, it's easy to sell a lot of things illegally, but most of them are not so incredibly widely desired by so many different people.

Soap is after all, an essential.

Even shorter, the whole article could be a single word: liquidity.
Thieves like liquid soap in particular
Especially the Tide brand in the $20 bottles. They are roughly equivalent to $20 bills.
I'd pay $50 for a gallon of Dr. Bronner's 18-in-1 Peppermint Castile Liquid Soap.

You can easily resell it on the street in smaller containers, and make a big profit if you DILUTE! DILUTE! OK! [1] ALL-ONE-GOD-FAITH! [2]

Not quite $50 for a gallon, but just about there with free shipping:

Dr. Bronner's Fair Trade & Organic Castile Liquid Soap
  (Peppermint, 1 Gallon) $57.59 Prime

I love the soap! It's worth the few extra dollars to know you're getting the pure stuff. You have to be careful about what you buy off the street in gallon jugs. [1]

Are they? Why would anyone buy stolen goods at list price?
Clearly for money laundering.
Maybe they offer door-to-door delivery service.
Probably by having compelling enough padding to garner seventy upvotes.

A simple thesis doesn't invariably make for a shitty article.

Because that's exactly what they do for living http://priceonomics.com/about/
through monetary incentives based on word count
Or so they can say "oh, we're not buzzfeed, we do long-form writing".
Lists. Quotes. Quadrants.
and than mix up the two diagrams titles...
