Probably speaks to the quality of their product. There are a bajillion free IDEs out there and people are willing to PAY IntelliJ. That being said, their personal licensing is so affordable that I wouldn't blink to buy it out of my own pocket it if my company didn't pay for it. If you don't need IDEA, I think most of the smaller ones are $50 for a personal license. I used Eclipse for Java and Komodo for Python/PHP for years. Then Komodo 8 was so bad that I gave PHP Storm a try and liked it so much I gave IDEA a try for Java and never looked back. |
