Was just listening to the podcast audio last night. A casual perusal of the connections between the business world and politics (especially local political leaders) would reveal the extreme conflicts of interest in cases such as these. These people aren't protecting anonymous "businesses" or a disembodied "economy", they're protecting their friends, and many times themselves.
