> No matter what’s your job, you don’t have a significant contribution on the game. You’re a drop in a glass of water, and as soon as you realize it, your ownership will evaporate in the sun. And without ownership, no motivation. This is why I left my 'dream job' of work working on a AAA MMORPG. I came on board early on as the first member of a 'NetOps' team, a senior linux systems administrator, which later split off and grew into a number of very large, very specialized teams. My loose definition of 'dream job' at that time was 'large scale' and 'video games'. Cool! It took a few years for me to redefine what a 'dream job' really meant, and being a drop in a bucket was not it, so I left and moved on (slowly) to freelancing, and haven't looked back. |
