What language is used to program it? For some reason I'm having a hard time finding this.

Check out https://github.com/Crazepony. From a brief look, you'd need to write C to change the firmware, but you can write a client in any language and connect via bluetooth (https://github.com/Crazepony/crazepony-android-client-none/b...).
