According to this[0] Netflix has 65 million subscribers who watch 100 million hours of Netflix a day, which works out to around 1.5 hours of Netflix per day per subscriber. In 2014 [1] people in the US watched an average of 2.8 hours of TV per day. I think you make a good point but it leaves me asking is filler important and if so why? Are viewers going to watch filler if they don't find anything good on Netflix? My guess is that live events like sports and news are the two elements of TV which Netflix can't replace.
