Looks like those messages are copied from mailing lists (TBBETA and/or TBUDL). Considering The Bat! was the most popular product[1] and its users were email addicted those mailing lists are the best way to reach their users directly. I've seen publications in local[2] "press" about the case although it focuses only on corruption and there is no mention of internal company's politics there.
