I've used ditaa http://ditaa.sourceforge.net/ for similar diagrams, and this Jekyll plugin to use it w/in Markdown Documents:

yes ditaa, forgot to mention that, but I don't yet know how to use ditaa etc to make those blocks as in the bash site, it just looks nice.
