Not only the 'West', the 'East' itself is desensitized to violence in the middle-east. It's normal to see newspapers there going out of their way to show bloody and gruesome imagery to reflect how "this is more violent than the last violent thing". In a nutshell: Bombings, assassinations and airstrikes are business as usual in Beirut/anywhere else in the middle-east and that's why no one is shocked. |
