Last autumn I was involved in working on a similar web app [1] for WorldBank which consumed its data sources.

I think it should be more accurate as they at WorldBank collect the data from multiple sources and process it in a scientifically precise manner. You can enter country you live in, which can make a dramatic difference.

Being told that ~2080 is the last year I might see is strangely more tangible than an age.

Google also a site where you can graph the WorldBank data in a zillion ways; I'm shocked that I didn't know about it earlier:

Hearing I'm older than 46% of the worlds population is pretty interesting. I'm only 27.
If you have a look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_median_ag..., you will see that the total world age median is 29.7.
