I've been a French expat in London for 5 years and I used to think like you. Having recently reconnected with Paris' tech scene though, things have changed a lot wrt to failure and things like that.

And the difficulty of finding an engineer willing to be paid in equity only, in a market where they can get both equity AND a good salary, is nothing special to France believe me.
