I found that Google AI Studio’s “Delete” button does not delete the server‑side chat.

I tested it by deleting a prompt, deleting the JSON file from Drive, and emptying the Trash. The file was fully gone.

Then I used Google’s official recovery tool.

The JSON came back — and the model instantly continued the conversation with full context.

This is only possible if the server‑side session and conversation were never deleted.

Another possibility is that JSON file is not a link, but an actual chat state. There is nothing server-side on Google AI studio, that JSON is the only thing there is. So if you delete the JSON, the chat is gone. If you recover the JSON, the chat is back. Not a single video shown what's inside that file

It is so easy to look at file size. If it's a link, it will be less than a kilobyte. If it's actual chat, it would be few kilobytes long, the longer the chat, the bigger the file. And yet there is nothing about file sizes in any of the messages.

Raises questions about competency of the person making those posts. Why are they making those crazy posts when in reality there is nothing untoward going on?
