Datomic and Clojure have nailed databases and programming in a general sense. I wish everyone would just copy them, since they seem to have gone completely stagnant when nubank took over. I'm annoyed I have to keep using everything else. It's hard to even focus on work knowing everything you're doing is mostly managing self-imposed complexity.
Stagnant? Both are alive and well. It's never been better to be a clojure+datomic dev.
Re-thinking DBs is a bit mid-2010s. By now we should be re-rethinking.
