Linux PC's are supposed to be able to do more than Windows PC's.

When something wrong is found with GRUB, the most sensible thing to do first is to fix it, not compromise it.

Why would anybody want Linux to become less-capable through time rather than at least maintain established strengths?

Removing ZFS boot is very unkind but if you do two stage boot presumably survivable, and EFI cures many ills.

I just did two bare metal design on zfs, it's fiddly but not impossible.
