Honestly, I think web dev has become quite bad lately especially with the difficulty of setting up all of the js+css+build tools mess.

The one saving grace is that things seem to be slowly improving as people have started to realize that we don't really need this level of complexity.

Sorry to say but the output hasn’t been this poor. Even in the day of Geocities, marquees galore, we were producing better markup, javascript, and content.
