Germany's Ecosia proposes stewardship to run Google Chrome (reuters.com)

My worry is that anyone but Google will run it into the ground and the web platform will actually be dead at that point.
From TechCrunch: Ecosia believes Chrome is on track to generate $1 trillion over the next decade.

I can see Chrome being profitable in the hands of Google, but separating Chrome from Googles ad business would remove the profitability. Chrome on it's own isn't going the generate any profit.

>Ecosia plans to reinvest part of Chrome's profits in climate action under Ecosia’s governance

"Please let us route Chrome's money into our friends' scam projects". Yeah, don't see that happening.

can you provide some sources on this insinuation?
i got through about half the list before i realized that these are all just general articles against carbon offsets (which, i think, in general, are very stupid compared to regulating energy usage). i thought you had a specific point about the behavior of Ecosia and i was curious because i've applied there in the past and find it an interesting company (planting trees is... good? usually? if done right?).
