Hi HN! I’m Mario, and I’m about to launch IssuePay.

Problem: Open-source contributors don’t get direct financial recognition for their work. Solution: IssuePay lets maintainers post bounties on GitHub/GitLab issues. Contributors pick tasks, merge code, and get paid automatically. You can then withdraw your earnings directly to your Bank Account.

I don't understand the whole bit on taxes. You have no authority i.r.t. taxation, and so I assume you mean your -- i.e. the platform's -- cut, so that type of "tax" verbiage is strange to me. Also, your site doesn't seem to go into where the money's coming from. Do the project maintainers pay you, and you pay the contributors? If so, this doesn't seem to address the underlying issue of maintainers not getting paid, because they're the ones paying. Overall, the site is very confusing.

Hi ezekg, When we say “taxes,” we actually mean the platform’s cut or fee, not any government tax. We get that it sounds confusing and we’ll fix that wording, thanks.

The idea behind the platform is to help folks who might not code themselves, like companies or users, pay developers to improve the projects they care about. So if you use or rely on a project, you can create sponsor issues, and the devs get paid for their work.

It also gives companies a chance to see top talent in action by watching contributors work on real open-source projects before hiring them.

Sure, it doesn’t magically fix the whole “maintainers getting paid” problem, but it’s a way to get stuff done and reward contributors.

This is not something I could consider touching until I see it in action. The site leaves me feeling very apprehensive.

i also don't understand "Limited visibility to hiring companies" - is this saying that my OSS code contribution is not going to have my name on it?

I'll watch this space, but I personally dont think this product is something I want.

Hi Josh, sorry for the delay in responding and thanks for your comment. I realize the phrase "Limited visibility to hiring companies" might not have been the best way to put it. What I meant is that within the application’s Job Offers section, users with a premium plan will appear higher and more prominently in search results. It’s about priority placement in those job listings, not about your OSS contributions or your name being hidden.

Also not a single link works in the footer, not even the terms of service. The social links don't work either.

On the register page there are also links to terms of service and privacy policy, neither one works.

Also 50% fee is ridiculous.

Hi Komo, You're correct that no tech companies are listed yet, so that claim has been removed for now. The footer links (including Terms of Service and Privacy Policy) are being finalized and will be working shortly. As for the 50% fee, we understand that a 50% fee feels high, we're currently reevaluating our pricing to ensure it's fair and truly benefits our users.
