At what point are we going to realize we've destroyed pretty much everyone's hope of living in this world. If all the money is going to a handful of companies and the employ 500 people, then it doesn't matter how much we're innovating. We're going to live in a wasteland. Without a robust middle class, the economy will be destroyed.
We know it will become a commodity but that is not the point.
It is the lasting effect of what happens AFTER when an AI system is able to mass replace the typical knowledge worker in multiple industries that have high economic importance close to $0 or for free. open-weight or closed.
There are hundreds of unanswered questions in regards to the economics of this and not even the OpenAI researchers have any viable solutions on what will happen.
