I expect that like always the pockets of the usual consulting firms will be filled and nothing competitive with the USA or China will ever come out of it.
Spot on, plus the few small companies good at grabbing public contract and make nothing of it.
Fully agreed although we have to admit the work done by Mistral is not fake (for now… this kind of incentive could ruin it)
I just read that Mistral has opened a new extensible data center near Paris - a good thing for the region.
They had an AI summit too. Normally I would be skeptical, but the French do have a way to do great things from time to time.

powered by nuclear energy ("France derives about 70% of its electricity from nuclear energy" https://world-nuclear.org/information-library/country-profil... )
I propose a new term "bullshit money", it is when governments do joint PR with Arabian princes or big company to proudly announce fictional huge investments that in the end will be fake, taken by vampires without real result (when Public money), or simply rebranding investment that was to be done anyway with only a thin relation with the original subject...

Here it is mostly a joke, they announced opening "data center"... The money and jobs that will really go to the french population will be mostly inexistant, there will not be real "innovation", and the one "offering" the money are probably coming to profit of the cheap nuclear energy or special revolving deals...

Let’s go France

And the deal with Middle East to open bigger data centers

Good for France. The fact this isn't an EU venture, matching Stargate in size, feels significant somehow.
It just so happens that France is the country producing over 50% of the EU's cheap nuclear electricity.
Paris is absorbing the AI talent and money
These waves of "billion AI investments" across US and EU are and will be an unprecedented fraud and waste. Anyway since COVID and double Trump nothing surprises me anymore. Maybe French AI will design an innovative crocodile skin belt and sophisticated purse which will change our lives.
You've got to wonder how they'd use the money productively. At least OpenAI actually has a lot of customers and use for the infrastructure.
Imagine how much regulations they can produce for that amount of investment. It's gonna be a true marvel of legislation art.
They'll create the most expensive PDFs and that's not even their final words.
At least it’s more money than was needed to buy the US government lmao.
