Show HN: I made a Reddit and StackExchange crossover app with less BS rules (zappl.xyz)
1 points by Bslou 512 days ago
Hey HN,

A few weeks ago, I got banned on Reddit for being in Mexico. I sent 22 appeals to Reddit, but none of them were read/accepted.

So I created Zappl, a platform where admins actually care for you and where there are no BS rules.

Furthermore, moderators have less power, and there exists a Knowledge Hub, where you can ask questions on different subjects (academic related).

The UI/UX is better than Reddit.

Hey, I'm Benjamin.

I got banned from Reddit for being in Mexico (on vacation with family and friends).

After sending 22 appeals to Reddit that were never read/accepted, I gave up and created an alternative.

Wow it actually looks really nice. I love these simple clean interfaces, that makes life so much easier. The only trouble is of course how are you going to guarantee people you won't succumb to enshitification when the money starts rolling in? :)
I honestly haven't even thought about the monetization part of it. For me, the whole goal was to get back at Reddit and help people with the same problem. As a certified dev, I promise I won't succumb to the enshitification style.
That's what they all say. :) But seriously good luck with it, it looks good. I guess you'll probably need some bots to start with like Reddit did, to get a bit of atmosphere in the place.
