Well, you gotta read all the way to the end before the author even defines what they think a "skynet moment" is: "a tipping point where the pursuit of advanced capabilities overshadows the fundamental principles of transparency and user control"

And sure, it probably does meet that definition. Many things do these days. Which makes the title pretty much clickbait.

Well, it's more than that, with o1 they moved to an architecture that hides its thinking process, uses an uncensored model AND hampers the ability for the user to control the outputs.

At least in the past we were able to see all the actual thoughts and chain of thought that the ai was going through.

EDIT: Furthermore they made it explicit that, even as the model is developed, they are not going to show the actual COT reasoning, even via the API.

I actually updated the structure of the article based on this feedback, it was very helpful in making it more clear and to the point.
