Show HN: OnlyTasks – Pay yourself for completing your tasks (onlytasks.space)

Hi HN,

I’m excited to share a simple yet effective tool I’ve been working on: OnlyTasks. It’s a to-do list app with a small motivational twist—assign a monetary value to each task to help stay motivated. The idea is that you pay yourself for completing tasks, using the money for things you enjoy to keep the motivation going.

Key Features: Monetary Value for Tasks: Add a dollar amount to each task for extra motivation. Local Storage: Use the app without registration and save your data locally. Upcoming Premium Features: Sync Across Multiple Devices, Task Prioritization, Task Labeling, Multiple Task Lists, Team Collaboration Tools, Integration with Calendar Apps, Cloud Storage, Automatic Backups, ...etc.

Why OnlyTasks? I created Only Tasks to address my own struggle with staying motivated on daily tasks. By assigning a monetary value, I found it easier to prioritize and complete tasks, knowing that I could use the money to treat myself to something I enjoy, keeping the motivation cycle going.

Seeking Feedback: I’m eager to hear your thoughts on OnlyTasks. What features would you like to see? How can we improve the user experience? Your feedback will be invaluable as we continue to develop and enhance the app.

Join Us: Check out OnlyTasks and join our waiting list to be the first to access new premium features when they launch. Your insights and support are greatly appreciated!

I would add a person acting as a referee, he will receive an email to confirm if the main user has completed his task, so the money can be unlocked.

The money is locked for a certain period of time, if the time is over, the money is send to a charity and you take a small fee.

I'm aware of a similar app concept developed by Pieter Levels. I appreciate the idea, but taking users' money away could potentially lead to dissatisfaction among them. What do you think about this potential issue? Do you believe it could cause negative reactions from users?

Thanks so much for your feedback!

How can you pay yourself? You already have the money that you're giving and receiving.

This is nonsense. Capitalist mindset taken to a ridiculous extreme.

So it’s not an app for you. I could see people potentially setting aside money and using it as motivation to complete tasks.

Or even better, a chore list for the kids. Write out a bunch of stuff and let them have at whatever they want to do.

Yes, exactly. That’s what I use it for. The money I set aside as a reward for completing my tasks is used for treats that aren't usually "smart expenses".

I hadn’t thought of the second use case, but it sounds like a good idea.

I understand, respect, and value your opinion. Don't get upset, it's just an app.
