I'm in. They’re working on an open-source operating system (e/OS) that prioritizes privacy and digital freedom, which I know many here are passionate about. It’s based on the Android Open Source Project but without the Google integration.
Murena has some ambitious goals, like hyperscaling active users and selling nearly 20K phones by next year. They’ve also partnered with sustainable phone manufacturers like Fairphone and Teracube, which aligns well with their ethos.
They’re already in overfunding territory, having raised €534K+ against a €400K target, so there’s clearly some momentum here. Given the growing concerns around data privacy and the monopolistic tendencies of Big Tech, Murena’s approach feels timely and necessary.
Just thought I’d share since privacy-respecting tech alternatives don’t come around every day.
Murena is the creator of /e/OS a pro-privacy operating system for smartphones which consists of a fully "deGoogled" mobile operating system (i.e. AOSP minus the parts that connect to Google online services) and carefully selected applications, together forming a privacy-enabled internal environment for mobile phones.
Full disclosure: I'm a user of a Murena / Fairphone device, and an investor in the Company.
Long time user and current investor here too: I love that there is company that is making smartphones that are open source and privacy safe, and that also have a great UI!
