So, how do you get music for your self-hosted server? (listen-to-euterpe.eu)

Pirate FLACs, go to shows, buy merch. You don't need to support the parasitic music distribution industry in order to support the bands you love.
All very well saying this, but supporting bands that don't tour anymore due to the economic difficulty of it, UK venues closing, bands being in other countries et cetera makes this quite hard.

I would love to go to Augusta Camp in Japan and see COIL live. Always wanted to. Likelihood? Sadly, quite low with my health.

You could still buy merch. I like buying vinyl and displaying it on my wall, personally.
Not sure if you know this, but not uncommonly, non-English-speaking countries, like Japan, don't offer international shipping.

After learning some very simple Japanese, I developed a good relationship with a Japanese record store in the '00s via letters to get each of the very small runs of CDs that Office Augusta used to do (they didn't make it available digitally in the West until well into the '10s). Would get some great additional records gifted from smaller and far more obscure indie artists. Was amazing. Couldn't use cards with their payment system, so paying was a complicated affair, but absolutely worth the fuss.

Somewhat related question... I bought a used hard drive from a thrift store. It has a massive and very eclectic collection of music on it, but the file names and ID3 tags are a bit of a mess. Any recommendation on a good way to clean all that up? The errors also include some band name misspelled, etc.
This should help substantially: https://picard.musicbrainz.org/
hey, i might have a good solution... i wrote https://github.com/waveplate/spotifm which allows you to stream spotify over icecast2 and control the playblack with a REST API
I get the music for my server mostly by buying CDs and buying from Bandcamp.
If you have a Deezer account you can use download lossless FLACs using various free apps.
Youtube downloader rips / encodes, picard for tagging/id
For stuff that’s a decade or more old, you can find pretty much anything on CD on eBay for $3.
I personally use soulseek and I share everything I download and rip myself
is it possible to slurp music playing through your spotify account?
rip it from CDs to FLAC, synching it to my media server and then clean up the local once I confirm and then play it through ultrasonic
