Why couldn't this be segmented into separate repositories or something? There's a wide gamut of completely different styles that would probably be better served by splitting them up

You mean the different sub fonts? The whole idea is that they are tightly connected in that they can be used in tandem.

From the README: "...they are all metrics-compatible with one another, allowing you to mix and match them for a more expressive typographical palette"
