App stores are a huge blunder for developers and users. They often fail at security but they rarely fail as a monetization choke point.
I agree, Apple generated 85 billion from their App Store sales in 2022. They have a rigorous refund policy making it easy to opt into purchases, work to opt-out, and nearly impossible to get a refund.

EU policy's lessen the difficulty. The US could move to adopt a similar approach which then balances the level of difficulty.

May be it would be interesting to see a company create a purchase flow as easy as Apple's but for both mobile, web, and voice.
