Good move. We know the damage these do. It hurts to think it took this long.
I’m always surprised we adults seem to have this feeling of superiority that we know how to use these things and teenagers don’t.

But we don’t know how to use them, we catch ourselves scrolling unaware, we use them in front of our children, in meetings when we’re bored, at restaurants…

Telling children not to use them while we do it at all inappropriate times is pure hypocrisy. If anything we should teach them (and ourselves) how to use them responsibly from early age onwards.

Most of us drink alcohol. In the UK the people making laws absolutely do. We know it's bad for us but we drink it anyway because we feel entitled to make the decision that the benefits outweigh the harm for us as individuals. Some of us get drunk and make bad decisions. Some of us get ourselves killed, or kill other people, but regardless, the consensus is that it should be available to adults.

Clearly this means it is rank hypocrisy to forbid children from slamming shots in the school cafeteriae?

While a kid is sitting in class, what is a reasonable reason for being on their phone?
Boredness due to poor teaching by the teacher

Same reason people are on their phone in meetings
