I've had significant struggles with my mental health over the past 2 years. These past few months, I've made significant strides in the recovery process and am finally beginning to feel like my old-self. For the first time in those 2 years, I finally got the motivation to work on a personal project. In my free time over the course of about two weeks, I managed to throw together what I'm sharing with you now, the Clean Room Club.
I built it because I noticed that a key indicator of my mental health was the cleanliness of my living space. When the depression got bad, so did my hygiene and my environment. Waking up to a filthy bedroom with trash everywhere just perpetuated the cycle, and it would get really hard to break out of. The rare times I was able to get myself out of bed long enough to clean however, would have compounding positive effects on my mental health. I'd wake up to a clean living space ready to tackle the day, go to bed feeling at ease, etc etc etc.
Both the concept and underlying technology is pretty simple. You make an account, upload photos of your clean room each day, build daily streaks, and can browse photos others have uploaded for motivation. All for free, of course. And that’s it! I have features I plan to add. But as is it serves it's core purpose, which is to keep you accountable to yourself. While others can see the photos you upload, there is zero personal information tied to them.
That all said, I'd love feedback regarding the design, any bugs you encounter, feature requests, or anything else. If you end up using it, and it helps you even a little, I’d love to hear that as well. Design/UX especially isn't my strong suit, as you'll soon discover.
Also please note, I’m using there free tier both on supabase and my chosen SMTP provider. I don’t expect this to get popular enough for either of those to be a limiting factor, but if it does there may be technical issues.
