I'm glad to pay cash for quality software. What I'm not willing to do is subscribe.

Charge me a fair price for your efforts, but don't expect me to send you a monthly payment for as long as I own your software. That's a non-starter.

This really depends on the software in question. I think it's appropriate for apps that are expected to be frequently updated and/or have variable costs to the maker.
