Show HN: Discover Jobs in the Green Economy (greenish.careers)
3 points by pronnenberg 1006 days ago
I created Greenish.careers out of my personal frustration when I was searching for a job in the green economy, with a particular focus on Germany. I was disheartened by the lack of a comprehensive job board dedicated to environmentally-conscious careers. Greenish.careers is my solution to this problem, a platform where individuals like me can easily find meaningful job opportunities that align with our values and contribute to a sustainable future.

Also on PH today: https://www.producthunt.com/posts/greenish-careers

Some more facts: - Providing job postings from companies careers sites to have up-to-date data - Sourcing / parsing around 4.500 jobs daily (more to come) - Create job alerts via emails

I'd appreciate your thoughts, comments, and feedback as I'm eager to improve. Thank you!

I like these niche job boards. Green jobs is of course very topical. Kind of like RemoteOK and 4DayWeek. What’s your criteria for companies/jobs to be considered “greenish”?
Interesting input ... Determining whether a company or job is "greenish" typically revolves around their commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. I do dig deeper and assess each opportunity individually to ensure it aligns with my green values: 1. Companies that are engaged in the development, production, or promotion of green technologies. This might encompass renewable energy, clean transportation, sustainable agriculture, or green building practices 2. Companies that are dedicated to achieving carbon neutrality or are actively involved in efforts to transition to a carbon-neutral economy 3. Companies / Organizations in renewable energy, electric vehicle manufacturing, waste reduction, and sustainable agriculture are typically green by nature and may be interesting for potential job seakers

As of now, I've selected companies that undeniably prioritize these sustainability criteria. Your question raises a valid point: what should be done about companies that fall somewhere in the middle of this spectrum? I believe that such companies may not hold significant appeal for job seekers who are specifically looking for opportunities deeply aligned with these sustainability principles.

What do you think? Maybe I can lookout for certifications etc. to "qualify" companies?

Really nice! I'm in Berlin and mildly looking for a small for-good gig, so I'll definitely have a closer look at this board.

Is it open source? Do you need some help?

Thank you! Let me know if you've found something. Do the categories suit you?

The project is not open source yet. I've built it with Laravel which I can def. recommend.

For me the categories aren't super important. I just select something IT, my city, and I just see if there are companies I have never heard of. Thanks for doing that!
