YouTube cracking down on if you're not paying them to block the ads [Reddit] (old.reddit.com)

Why are people being so angry about this move?

I’m totally against corporate greed and all, but everyone knows that producing decent content is basically a full-time job. Producers need to put food on their own table, too. If people are against ads and against paid subscriptions at the same time, then where do they believe the money should be coming from?

Why are there so many reddit posts on HN since the blackout started?
It's a notable site (top 50 most visited) that has a partial overlap with the usual HN crowd, and it's sparked fears and discussions about "enshittification".
from the sub comments:

" If you're a ublock origin user, copy this line and paste it through My Filters tab. Enjoy!

youtube.com##+js(set, yt.config_.openPopupConfig.supportedPopups.adBlockMessageViewModel, false)youtube.com##+ "

[These lines are filters. They are the rules by which the ad blocker (in this case u block) selects specific web content to remove when matches are found. Apparently they can also find JavaScript content which is what they seem to do: removing the JavaScript parts of YouTube.com that show the ads]
