This technology in Bill Gates hands, doesn't sound like a good idea for humanity...
Bill Gates' stake in Microsoft is on the order of 1%. Therefore, even when Microsoft buys a 100% stake in something, it does not mean that it is "in Bill Gates' hands".
Can we please just skip to the part where you tell us how you feel about vaccines?
I'm more interested in Bill being best buddies with JEpstein.
Not the person you are replying to, but I hold the same opinion as them regarding Bill Gates and OpenAI, and I am totally fine with vaccines (vaxxed myself and would recommend it to others). What's your point?

There is a reason for why "assume good faith" and "please try to assume the strongest possible interpretation of comments of others" are a part of HN comment guidelines. Instead, you just immediately jumped to an assumption that the reason the grandparent comment author is not a fan of him is because BillG is pro-vaccines, and the author is an anti-vaxxer.

The valuation is rather incredible.

I recall the media buzz around AI back in 2015 (around the same time as OpenAI was founded). It seemed everyone was hyping Canada to be the next "AI Superpower" due to the perceived hostility of the (then next) presidential administration to academics and international talent. Especially companies like Element AI.

Yet, while Element AI fizzled out [0], it seems OpenAI prospered... right here in the Valley!

Smart move by Microsoft.

Not sure how this squares with them being open?
The "Open" in "OpenAI" turned into pure marketing/branding long ago.
What Microsoft touches, Microsoft destroys.
As demonstrated by GitHub and LinkedIn, both of which operate independently. Thanks for this remarkably constructive comment
How long until they until they neuter it and murder like they did Tay?
