Not at all hard to imagine why the US stopped humoring a manic weirdo playing spy — complete with secret codenames and passphrases — and larping as a revolutionary provisional government once he started attacking embassies.

But why do they keep electiong them as govenors, senators, congressmen and even presidents?

In large part because our electoral system is deeply flawed and being manipulated by corrupt politicians. Meanwhile those same politicians are dismantling education and driving voter suppression campaigns.
Wish there was one for the US too.
