I just stumbled upon this great story [1] and was surprised it had not been posted here before.
"How Grandmother Triode Stole Binary from the Sun" is a newer bit of folk/computer lore, by Jack Manganese. He credits two Cherokee stories, "Grandmother Spider Steals the Sun" and "The First Fire" as inspiration [2].
