Lost me with the invocation of covid as a total invalidation of harari's suggestion that we "sapiens" have a great amount of control over our environment, and may only be majorly threatened by manmade viruses.

I simply don't see how covid was ever a major threat to our species, and to me it seems clear that the vaccines we manufactured were extremely effective.
